Welcome to Santa Cruz Guitar Company

Founded in 1976, the Santa Cruz Guitar Company brought boutique guitar making to the forefront of the steel string guitar business.  Richard Hoover invites you to watch this short film by LR Baggs, which documents the culture of SCGC’s small production lutherie and mission to provide musicians with exceptional instruments that truly change the world.

Santa Cruz Guitar

The OOO is the 12-fret predecessor of the OM. If access past the 12th fret is of no concern, the OOO adds some distinct advantages tonally and cosmetically. The extension of the body to the 12th fret adds additional airspace, which translates into increased sound volume and a more predominant bass in the EQ. The slotted peghead is a standard feature that adds classic styling. The peghead’s reduced mass accentuates the guitar’s open, airy ambiance, making it a fingerstyle favorite.

This particular guitar is the full sized, older brother version of the 1929 Model design package series. You will find the same simple and elegant aesthetics of the 1929-O and 1929-OO versions while a longer, 25.375-inch scale for additional volume and bass make it a worthy ensemble instrument. The master grade True Mahogany top is correctly dimensioned and hand voiced for a full and complex presence and the elements for an heirloom guitar are all in place. The 1929-OOO’s look includes a period correct script logo inlay on the peghead done tastefully in Ivoroid. Classic Ebony complements the pyramid bridge, tuner buttons, head-plate, and fretboard. An appropriately simple rosette is inlaid with a rich faux tortoise shell celluloid ring in a vintage Ivoroid border. The 1929-OOO Model has all the exceptional presence and playability that you would expect from the Santa Cruz stable of state of the art acoustic guitars. Just shipped internationally toThe Fellowship of Acoustics in Dedemsvaart, Netherlands. Reach out to Coen with any questions!

Santa Cruz Guitar

The B/PWBrad Paisley signature model story begins with Paisley’s acoustic guitar mastery and his well-deserved super star status. His decision to partner with a shop as small as Santa Cruz Guitar Company came from his desire to be associated with quality and responsibility above all else. He wanted his name on a handmade instrument that his fans and guitar aficionados alike could trust. Richard Hoover worked closely with Paisley to design a personalized, custom dreadnought based on SCGC’s Pre-War Dreadnought Model.

The Paisley signature model (The B/PW) honors Paisley’s dedication to the sustainability of treasured tone woods, built with his preferred customizations for playability, tone and look in mind. Featuring Indian Rosewood sides/back, Bear Claw German Spruce top, 1-3/4" nut width, 2-3/16” bridge spacing, scalloped Adirondack Advanced-X bracing, herringbone top border, ivoroid body binding, black fingerboard binding, unbound solid square peghead with a custom Cowboy hat inlay, SCGC fingerboard inlay at the 5th fret, tinted top. Setup with our SCGC Parabolic Mid Tension strings. Just shipped internationally to Guitar-Repairs in Gams, Switzerland! Reach out to Urs with any questions.

She is a stunner. Tuned her up to pitch and I don’t know how to say this. She has made every other guitar in my collection weep. I own some mighty fine instruments, two of your OMs, a Collings OM, a Bourgeois D Vintage Heirloom, a Huss and Dalton TD-R. This 1934 D feels and sounds like it’s in a class of its own.  I am so grateful to your shop’s attention to detail and craftsmanship. I’ve played a few Brazilian backed guitars in the past (Martin, Taylor and Bourgeois) and can appreciate the tonal difference between Brazilian and East Indian rosewood. Brazilian just sounds so much sweeter, has a more balanced sound, and more controlled and pleasing overtones than East Indian. However none of the other Brazilian guitars inspired me to pay the extra money for them, and those guitars were half the price of the 1934 D. Santa Cruz isn’t just using Brazilian rosewood in the 1934D, they’re using the real deal old growth Brazilian. “The Good Stuff” as they say. This guitar took the positives I heard from the other BRW guitars, and turned up the dial to 11. This is truly a lifer. Heirloom quality both in aesthetics and in sound. What is amazing is that this was just finished by your shop earlier this year, so it’s “the worst it is ever going to sound” right now, and it’s already the best guitar I’ve ever played. It will only open up and sound more amazing in the years to come!
