Custom Options – Inlays
Another great way to personalize your instrument, we offer a variety of fingerboard, peghead, bridge and heel cap inlays to make the guitar truly unique to you. From traditional 42 and 45 style snowflakes or diamonds and squares on the fingerboard, to koi fish inlays within diminished frets, to a custom inlay of your beloved pet on the peghead, to a portrait of your grandfather on a scrimshaw heel cap, we can do it all. The fancy Snakewood or Mother of Pearl century blocks on the fingerboard you might have seen on display at the NAMM show can be inlaid on your very own guitar. We have our version of traditional flowerpot and torch inlays for the peghead, as well as more obscure birds and plant life. We love working with customers to design inlays that are personal to them and their families, to help make the guitar a true family heirloom. Please contact us with any questions about the custom inlay process, even if you’re just in the beginning stages of considering a custom guitar.
The art of the 42 and 45 style inlays is a dying breed. Many guitar makers do not offer this service anymore. At SCGC, we still do all the 42 and 45 style abalone inlay work by hand, making it a very time consuming, but rewarding process. Done using traditional methods, these exclusive inlay options are another way SCGC ensures you a one-of-a-kind instrument. The 42 style option includes abalone rosette, top purfling and fingerboard extension inlay, while the 45 style option includes those three, plus the back border, side border and tail wedge. Miles of miters, all done by hand.
